New Player Guide

What to do with a new character: which class to pick, how to spend the first hours on Talking Island, how combat works, how to earn Adena and how to avoid losing your gear.

Choosing Your Class

Your choice of class determines your role in combat and your overall gameplay experience.

Beginners should consider Knight or Warrior—straightforward classes that teach the fundamentals.

Mage and Elf are good choices if you prefer magic or ranged combat.

Royal is recommended for experienced players who want to lead pledges.

Dark Elf, Dragon Knight, and Illusionist are advanced classes with complex mechanics.

Tips

  • Don't stress too much—you can always make alts later
  • Pick what sounds fun, not what's "meta"
  • Every class is viable with the right gear and skill

Your First Hours

You'll begin on Talking Island, the traditional starting zone for new characters.

Kill monsters near town to level up and collect your first equipment drops.

Don't venture too far until you understand the combat system and your abilities.

Type /buff in town for Greater Haste, Enchant Dexterity, Enchant Mighty, Aqua Protect and Concentration.

Combat Fundamentals

Lineage uses a point-and-click combat system with skill hotkeys.

Pay attention to your HP, MP, and any status effects during battle.

Learning when to fight and when to flee is a crucial survival skill.

PvP is unrestricted outside safe zones—always be aware of your surroundings.

Death has consequences in Lineage, so play smart and don't get greedy.

Tips

  • Always have potions ready
  • Learn the safe zones in each area
  • Group up for dangerous content
  • Respect more powerful players

Making Adena

Adena is the primary currency in Lineage—you'll need it for everything.

Monsters drop Adena directly as well as items that can be sold or traded.

The player market is where real fortunes are made—learn what items are valuable.

Don't waste Adena on cosmetics early—invest in your character's power first.

Tips

  • Learn market prices before selling
  • Save for essential upgrades
  • Find reliable farming spots
  • Check the Powerbook to learn about Adena and valuable items.

Survival Tips

Lineage is a dangerous world. These tips will help you survive:

Always know where the nearest safe zone is located.

Don't carry items you can't afford to lose outside safe zones.

Watch for red-named (chaotic) players—they've killed others and may kill you.

If someone much stronger approaches, teleport or run—discretion is valor.

Keep some escape scrolls on you.

Hunt monsters to keep your Lawful level high to avoid dropping items on death.

Join a pledge for protection and backup when you're in trouble.
